Q) What types of injuries are covered under Workers Compensation MN?

A) Only physical injuries are covered for Workers Compensation.  There are several different types of physical injuries that a person can sustain.  The first type of injury is a traumatic incident.  For instance if I'm carrying a box and I fall down and break my leg it's very easy to say on that specific date is sustained an injury.  Another type of injury is what we call a Gillette injury.  A Gillette injury is one that occurs over a period of time as a result of repetitive activity.  For instance if I'm a barrel maker and I spend 30 years making barrels and one day my shoulder freezes up, even though I didn't fall down and hurt myself, I still have a compensable injury because of the repetitive activity and the ultimate break down in my shoulder.  A third type of injury is an occupational disease.  If I worked around chemicals on the job and  develop lung cancer, that lung cancer would be covered for Workers Compensation because of the chemical exposure at work.  Consequential injuries are also covered.  Consequential injuries are for instance if I have a back injury and I develop leg pain, both the back and the leg are covered for Workers Compensation Disability because the leg pain is a result of the back injury.  Finally, if you sustain a second injury while treating for the first injury, that is also covered.  For instance if I am treating for a back injury and I get in a car accident while going to the doctor for my Workers Compensation injury and break my arm, both my back and my arm are covered for Workers Compensation.
